Our Children’s Hope: Peace
Our Children’s Hope: Peace
“Our Children’s Hope: Peace” brought Palestinian and Israeli children to the U.S. with a message of peace. A month of events, which opened on October 4, 1998 at Georgetown University, included dialogue between children from the Middle East and DC area students.
“Our Children’s Hope: Peace” was based on the success of a series of workshops held during the month of August in Al-Bireh, Ramallah, and Tel Aviv which brought Israeli and Palestinian children together to express their hopes for the future through the medium of art. The workshops were jointly organized by WINDOWS Channels for Communication (Tel Aviv) and the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS – West Bank).
These children came to the nation’s capital to share their wish for peace, despite the difficult circumstances in their homelands. Their visit established the first ever dialogue with students in the Washington, DC area to talk about how children can contribute to developing the foundations for peace. Representatives from WINDOWS and PRCS, including Palestinian and Israeli children, held interactive workshops at Georgetown Day School, National Cathedral School, St. Alban’s School, Washington International School, Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School, Maret School, Holton-Arms School and Stone Ridge School. The Capital Children’s Museum hosted a workshop for over 200 students from area schools.
The “Our Children’s Hope: Peace” art exhibit was on view at the Capital Area Children’s Museum in October, 1998 and the Russell Senate Office Building rotunda in November, 1998. A number of drawings were also on display at the DC Jewish Community Center’s Ann Loeb Bronfman Gallery from October, 1998 through February, 1999.
